Comments
Based on photos, it is unclear how many culverts are present at the site and what their dimensions are. A photo of the upstream end of the restriction shows that there are 15 metal trash grates installed at a concrete headwall while the tide gates are installed at the downstream headwall.

Phragmites mostly related to stormwater outlets and weeping hillside.

General Comments

Upstream has been completely channelized with portions of reinforced bank all the way to the next upstream crossings. No upstream marsh exists due to steep channel banks except for small pockets along areas of more gradual bank. Downstream side inaccessible due to state highway.

Habitat Transects

First Transect (50 yards upstream of tide gate)

Second Transect (150 yards upstream of tide gate)

Third Transect (300 yards upstream of tide gate)

Notes

Site shows moderate salt marsh impairment due to restricted tidal flow. Replacement with self-regulating tide gate could restore approximately 5-8 acres of degraded marsh habitat. Good access for construction equipment. Regional coordination completed with town DPW and conservation commission.

Notes & Comments

General Comments
Site is located off of Route 1 to the northeast of the Showcase cinemas.
Operation Plan
Operation Comments
Three SRTs are installed at this location and are not being operated per permit conditions. Refer to noncompliance document uploaded to the SharePoint website.
Gate Comments
There are three (3) metal self regulating tide gates (SRTs) installed at the site and an additional eight (8) conventional metal flap gates. The SRTs are located at the southernmost end of the headwall. The conventional metal flap gates are present for flood protection while the SRTs are installed to provide flood protection and restoration. Based on plans and photos it appears that the dimensions of the 3 SRT's are approximately 6' by 6'. Dimensions of the flap gates are unknown, but also appear to be on the order of 6' by 6'. As of 11/4/2015, the central SRT (Revere-08B) was missing the bottom float and not operational. Tidal leakage was also observed at and around the conventional flap gates.
Elevation Comments
Invert elevation of SRTs is 1.95 Boston City Base (BCB) Datum. High water elevation is 10.69 BCB.
